Albino Coturnix

Looking forward to the pictures tomorrow. And lots of people doctor pictures. I am a professional photographer. I have seen many photos doctored with Photoshop. I do it myself to remove wrinkles, liver spots, ect.

I am just saying, i have no interest in doctoring photos. I don't know how, not interested in learning. Nothing to gain even if i did. I do have albino quail, believe it or not. I dare say all the folks on Random Ramblings have not seen fit to doubt my word. I am not a great photographer, but will try again for a better photo.

My understanding from awhile back when I researched this was that pure albino quail suffered health issues and made a weak line if bred for that purpose. That’s why the A&M line and JM jumbo white recessive lines are bred to maintain a small black spot on the head. That way the body of the meat birds was white, desirable for comercial meat production, but they didn’t suffer the degraded health of the pure white strains. Breeders of these lines cull their alol white birds for that reason.

Now when an individual bird is born all white it won’t necessarily have health issues, but if you were to breed for an all white line you would likely run into the health problems that plagued earlier attempts for all white quail.

I believe the British bred an all white line that does ok health wise, and it was part of the foundation stock for the above mentioned strains of jumbo meat birds. Dunno why they ran into issues trying to make a jumbo version of this all white bird.

Cappy does this bird have trouble seeing? Can you tell if she can find her food ok?
This is an interesting read.

I have them in a brooder that is encloed on all sides, but has a small area of wire on the front. So there is enough light for them to see, but not enough to blind them.
Sorry,.i had to get feed and prescriptions today so by the time i finished chores and supper it was too late for more photos. I have a younger albino quail that seems to be having a hard time. I still have a small heat lamp in there because she seems to need it though the other birds could easily be off heat. I find it best to keep the albinos by themselves to elimate bullying.
I will try to get better pictures tomorrow.

That picture does not show red eyes. Have one at a better angle?

My understanding of the A+M line is they were trying to breed to all-white, but couldn't achieve that.

Ive had several all white birds, but the brown dot on the head won't breed out.
Some of the A&M's I raised where solid white, no brown feathers anywhere. Others did have a brown feather on there backs.

How old/young are they?
I am curious to see how long they live.
The one group is probably 6 to 8 weeks old as 2 are laying now. The others are around a month i think.
Today i went to a livestock auction, and then shopping. The smoke at the auction really bothered me. I was tired so i laid down around 4, and woke up around 8. Therefore i failed to get pictures yet again.:( Sorry, not very on the ball. Hopefully i will do better tomorrow. :barnie
