Alert/notification does not work right:

I've found a system that works great for me. I automatically "watch" all threads I reply to, but have alerts turned off for new posts. I then bookmark the "new posts" link:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/whats-new/posts/

... and filter it to only show unread and watched:

Then I have that page automatically open every morning when my browser opens.

I think it all started with the new alert system, at least I did not notice it before.

I've seen this too. I have to unwatch and re-watch to get the alerts back. It might happen only when I don't click on a reply notification. Is it possible the alerts disable silently to avoid spamming in that scenario?

That's what happens, it stops sending alerts if the thread remains unread after an alert is sent. If that happens, you can just navigate to the last page in the thread, because that causes it to be marked as read.

That happens all the time. If you scroll down to the bottom of your inbox and all of the shown are new and unread then you most likely have more than that. You have to click “show all” and scroll down until you see your newest notifications and those alerts that you previously thought to have been missing will probably be there.

That's exactly what I always do but there is no alert for this thread/tag.

If tags are entered as an edit you will not get an alert.
