Alertish Dog-Attacked Rooster in Recovery Hangs Head and Reguritating

Upon further inspection, I believe his neck isn't right. It is of a deep red almost burgandy shade. He was holding his head from the ground, but not erect. I think his clear mucous is what was causing the gurgle, as he had been trying to swallow for much of the day as it came out. Over the past hour he has begun to flop on his side, as dying birds do.

So sorry about your Sam. Internal injuries sound like a real possibility. From the description you gave of your dog's set up, it is possible he was going after the predator that took the chicken. No blood or feathers on the dog kinda excludes him as the attacker.

Prayers headed your way...

I am also suspecting sour crop, he stinks! But it is recent, more than likely a trauma induced something or other, but I hate to string him upside down because of his injuries.
NOO don't tip him upside down, do you have blue kote?

I would keep his head up and keep him as comfortable as you can, he looks bad. Poor guy.. Keep his head up so that he doesn't choke on his own fluids or foods.

He died early this morning and has been buried. He was already too far gone before anyone could do anything.

I am so very sorry that he died.....I am also relieved that your dog was innocent...that would have been so much harder to bear if your dog had caused this.
