Alicia's growout addition

Did you use paint or stain on the others?
Good coat of paint will lock them up, stain maybe not so much.

I look forward to seeing your breeding pens come together, am a bit jealous.
What are your breeding plans?
Will each pen also have a separate run?
Last time we used paint this time I grabbed both, the stain said waterproofing.... I think we will add a coat of the paint over the top.... I kinda think I like the pinkish??? Oh well chickens dont care.
I am working twords some faster maturing meatier birds.... I started with A Large white rooster that was given to me, I lost him earlier this year? I am currently working with some of his sons. One is a white Necked neck with blue feet, (his nick name is blue foot, I am not very original with the names) he is currently over my red broiler hens. The other rooster that I am using is a Big delaware cross, Big Boy, he was hatched almost exactly a year ago and hit 5 pounds st 12 weeks! Some of his offspring show potential to get big and fast.
Oh and I am trying to keep some dark egg layers going and the green and blue layers, but mainly ones that lay a Lot of eggs.
One of the big pushes to get this built now is the fact that I am out of room for the growouts that are not quite ready to move into laying houses. I have a rather large bunch that were hatched in may, some purchased Delaware, leghorns, wellsummer, black austolorp, white Plymouth rock, and of course some of my Nn projects.. oh and a couple turkeys.
I have a number of birds that will need processing before nov. Because the plan is to not carry anything that doesnt fit a breeding program into winter, except the growouts......

Might want to add some heftier bolts/screws in here?:

Lol we used 3.5 inch nails and then came back and added the 2 3 inch screws with washers that are visible
Ah, can't see the nail heads, just what looks like a couple of deck screws,
which don't have good shear strength to be holding the roof up.

I went back and counted my son was helping with the pneumatic nailer and he hit each of those joints at least 4 to 5 times with nails before we added screws. We did manage to repaint the floor last night, and rehome 20 or so chickens but hey it was s start

think I am begging to like the red.... to my untrained eye the paint looks like it will hold up better. Or maybe it just makes me feel better?

Came home to s pleasant surprise hubby and the kids had cut the siding, so after attaching hardware cloth to the back of the building we were ready to install the sides!

back wall is done other than some trim on the corners!
Then we moved onto installing the bottom boards for the dividing walls, the top parts of those walls will be wire, so it will be airy. I wanted the bottoms to be solid so little ones couldnt get through.

i like the way this pic shows where the door frame goes and the dividing walls.

we finished putting up all the siding that didnt require cutting. The Only side that will be exposed to predators is the back wall, the other 3 will be inside the perimeter fence

Now we move onto the finishing touches, making the doors and finishing the dividing walls. I intend to make the roosts fold up flat on the wall, it will be a first for me but I aim to make it work. I had not intended to put nesting boxes but I found out today that I have access to a bunch of house scraps, so if I can find what I want, each coop may end up with a twin nest box that can be flipped so littles do not learn to sleep in them.
So many possibilities! We are still waiting on 2 dog kennel style gates to arrive so we can access each different section of run.

Man, that is lookin' SWEET!!
Will there be any windows?

The solid dividers would be good for having males segregated in there,
but for anything else, especially integration, you might want them to be mesh.
I put 'windows' and 'tiny doors' in my divider wall.

You could build a couple-few portable nests for when you want to use them as breeder pens. I've found this pretty handy, but takes up room to store it. If my ceiling was higher I might hang it.

I think I should mention that my building skills are basic at best.... the plan is to make the upper walls wire, not sure yet if it will be hardware cloth or chicken wire. For integration they will be able to see each other through the wire in the outside runs.
Wow! You are much more talented than I am!
