We designed and built the original coop complex in 2017, when we put up 2 10x10 coops that are split in half inside to make 4 separate chicken areas with 350 to 400 sq foot fully enclosed outside runs each.
2018 we built a turkey and duck wing. Earlier this spring we added 2 10x10 chainlink growouts with small houses.

The final planned stage is to add the growout/breeding house with 3 sections.
We started with cement pavers to make a foundation

rough cut 2x8 planks for the frame. oh and my 3 helpers

next we put the floor joist in with one extera 2x8 support in the center

next the uprights go in, 2 2x8's nailed together 6 foot 10 inch in the back and 7 foot 10 inch in the front

the roof supports went on next we are using 3.5 inch nails and 3 inch screws with a washers so they dont sink too far

went ahead and used some old paint to add a little protection to the bottom board hope it holds up a little better... plan to get some more done before returning to work Tuesday

Ok my building vocab sucks but last night before we quit we managed to get the roof cross boards up. We made sure that the roof has a one foot overhang on each side.

then came the floor

next we put the roof on and some headers for the door frames, everything above those will be hardware cloth for ventilation

added the door frames
I went to my local home depot looking for oops paint and came away with an ugly brown and a pinkish waterproof stain. I have never used stain for a project like this but the price was right so I figured we would give it a shot. My daughters helped me stain the floor, door frames and headers. Then we came in for lunch, and a quick update here, we will rest during the hot part of the day, then back to town to pick up a few more 2x4's and a better metal blade for the circle saw.

Worked a little more this eve. My girls painted the 2x8 ply wood that will be the base of my divider walls.
We also got the hardware cloth installed at the tops of the front 3 sides
And installed the boards that will be used to screw the metal siding to

the next planned step is to add the hardware cloth to the back bottom as part of the apron.
Then we will be ready to cut the 12 foot corrugated steel pieces in half to make 6 foot tall siding and install it

That is sweet!
So glad you started a build thread!
Are you going to cover the OSB floor to protect from splinters?
Hmm hadn't considered it. I think we are going to paint over it one more time and leave it. Do not seem to have trouble with splinters in the other 2 coops that were treated the same way so I think we will try our luck

Did you use paint or stain on the others?
Good coat of paint will lock them up, stain maybe not so much.

I look forward to seeing your breeding pens come together, am a bit jealous.
What are your breeding plans?
Will each pen also have a separate run?
