Here's some pics of RIRs...

These 2 are Penny and Copper (I know, not very original but they are inseperable so Copper-Penny just works)

Here is Merlot

And this is Cab

They are all very mellow girls that lay gorgeous, extra large, golden brown eggs for me almost every day! Love these girls!

Here are my newest Orpingtons (the yellow chicks are buff orps and the mottled colored are white orps)

And this is my dominant hen, Bertha.

I should say dominant chicken period, cause Bertha keeps the whole flock in line, no matter what. Once 2 roos decided to have a serious fight. I mean they were really going at it! Bertha hollered at them with a sort of growl (strange sound from a chicken but it usually calms everyone down immediately) but they still kept it up. She then launched herself like a rocket between the 2 roos and yelled at them like I've never heard her yell before! She sounded so forceful I felt like she could take charge of the whole city if she took a mind to!

Those 2 roos instantly backed off looking scared to death of that fat BO! There is no doubt who rules my flock!

You have such pretty girls! Your RIR are so big...my RIR Gretta is big..but not as fluffy as yours! They sound like they are alot of fun!

Thanks...Miss Gretta is the sweetest lady! She was my fisrt chicken as an adult...she started it all! I had just a great experiance with her I wanted more!

She was all alone?! That is so sad.
sad.png

At least she has you now!
smile.png

She was all alone in a coop all closed up..the house was being sold by the bank..my friend was the realtor..she heard Gretta inside the coop and called me and the rest is history. I soon bought 2 other adult hens from a auction. Now she has a little family!
love.gif

Funny how it sometimes just all starts with one chicken..now I want MORE!!

With our RIRs, it is really not at all uncommon for us to get 3-4 eggs a day. And we have four hens. THEY. ARE. AWESOME.

They're also violently greedy self-centered jerks, but that just makes them more fun to mess with.

RIR's? I think they are sweet-hearts. Lol

All of my RIRs right now are sweet but I had one when I was younger that was mean, mean, mean! But I never let that one mean hen stop me from having more RIRs.

Ours are skittish. So of course I mess with them as much as possible.

They hate being petted. Only one tolerates being picked up - the rest try to scratch.

Weird thing is, I handle them on a daily basis.
