" All dogs seen wandering this property will be shot"

I agree with chic-n-farmer.

A ditch 5 feet from the road is probably county property. (easement)

The dog should always be restrained, never running loose. Neighbor needs retraining!

Your animals should still be protected, because when one predator is gone another will take it's place.
And in some locales, it's illegal to let livestock run loose.

I only let my ducks free range on saturdays and sunday when I am at home and out doing yard work, walking , or if I have the doors and windows open so that I can get some fresh air but at the same time hear the ducks. We were walking at the time and can see our yard on our route, thats the only reason I let them in the ditch to eat. Plus, when Im out the neighbors ( not the idiots ) love to slow down and watch them , especially the ones with kids.

And going back out to pick up some trash - I was wrong, the ditch is 15 ft from the road ( I took a measuring tape like a retard, lol ) . I know - still too close to the road, but fifteen feet is triple what five is.

I am now keeping a spiral on the attacks - both from neighbor dogs and other predators. ( Although the only other predators ive ever had have been egg eating snakes. )

Well, all I can say is good luck and that I respectfully disagree with letting your animals run loose, rather than protecting them against the unknown.

Hope it works out.

I only let my ducks free range on saturdays and sundays when I am home and out and about. Ive learned my lesson when I let them free range - even for twenty minutes - without supervision. Ive lost enough birds to know that they need to be protected by the fence but when thats not in place its always necessary to keep an eye out and make a count up at least every fifteen - thirty minutes. Ive only got 16 birds right now, but when my numbers are around 30 and 40 when im taking in rescues I never let the group out without being with them at all times. Larger numbers of birds means more attention from everything.

Goat walker..
wernt the ducks on your property?? I thought that they were...

They were on my property. They were on our side of the ditch , eating at the edge and then running back into our yard where there is an old horse wallow that fills with water.

You must enlist the help of local law enforcement. Have them come and visit and explain to them the situation. Tell them you need their help. Tell them you are a good student and counting on them to help you. Here's their chance to make a difference. Tell them your looking to them for guidance. I know it sounds sappy but you must get them to feel responsible to help.

You can check w/ animal control and see if there have been any reports of this womans dogs harassing other neighbors. If there is print out this information to strengthen your case. If your parents have homeowners insurance check to see if your animals are covered. If they are check to see if they may be able to help. Perhaps contacting this lady and letting her know she will be held liable for damages. Insurances always like to get the other person to pay.

You must not let them see your very upset. Yes you feel like shooting this ladies dogs but you must not let them know that. Have the authorities speak on your behalf.
Go throught the proper channels FIRST. Your a minor it's up to the adults to help you. Let them.

Being on your property did not keep them safe today. You got off lucky. You said "THERE ARE BLODDY FEATHERS IN MY YARD WHERE HER DOG RIPPED THEM OFF MY GOONIE!! ( My beloved white scovie drake ) "

I totally agree animals should be safe on their owners' property, but we live in a country filled with irresponsible dog owners. You can't count on them for your animals' safety. Sure, report it to the authorities, keep notes, post a sign. That only works if the dog owner gives a darn. It's been my experience that, in situations like these, the poor dog will have to die because the idiot owner can't be bothered to control it.

Good luck.

Here's the thing everyone it seems is failing to notice.

Sure, I let my ducks free range in my yard, near a road where cars go by and a rabid tire could lash out and eat them, and the stupid owner walking their dog on the road can let their dogs off a leash so it can chase my ducks from one side of my property to the other, right next to my backyard fence -

But here it is - I was inside for five minutes writing a note for my next door neighbors - and my mom was RIGHT THERE! as i said - 40 yards away from our property walking up the street back home.

My animals are ON MY PROPERTY. Being SUPERVISED. My not only me - but my family as well.. If I need to go inside for a second and my animals are near the road, I ask my sister if she wants to jump on the trampoline for a few minutes, where she can survey our entire property and keep an eye on my animals.

Yes, My 16 quackers were free ranging, but they were being supervised. We live on the corner of two intersecting roads, the only two roads in a three mile radius. We walk from the drive way , around the corner, and down two houses ( where we can still see our property and the little ducks walking in the yard) and back several times to get our miles in everyday.

So its not like im letting these guys just roam the yard all day and not even checking on them but maybe once or twice during the day when i migth glance out the window, these animals have eyes on them all the time when they are out pretty much.

It just seems that yall are trying to peg me for letting my animals free range, but please dont let it slip your minds that we were out there when this happened and the ducks were being supervised.

Just call the police.. i think that you will need a paper trail...
personally..if that dog came on my property again i'd go out and grab the dog and call animal control...right in front of that lady..(shed have to PROVE that the dog was her dog to animal control.).... tell them you have a dog wandering on your property that was harrassing your animals..

You should check your county laws maybe even call and ask animal control. I don't have a "leash law" or at least it isn't called that. What it does say is all dogs must be under the control of their owners by leash, fence, or structure. Another says I can shoot a loose dog "worrying" my chickens. Having just lost my beloved top roo to a loose dog I filed a report and the owner gets their citations this week, one for dog at large and another for vicious animal. I have been told fines start at $500, that should make them think twice before they do this again, if they get a new dog that is. Just be careful, sometimes you can get in more trouble for injuring a dog rather than killing it.
