" All dogs seen wandering this property will be shot"

I would imagine grabbing someone's dog and taking it to the pound would be considered stealing the dog. That's NOT a good idea. Let animal control take it there.

Goat Walker,
You may be able to access your local ordinances online. Check out your county government website. Good luck on the dog problem. I'm in AL too--Calhoun County. Dogs are one of the things I worry about when I let my chickens out to free range. We're outside the city limits, but even though we have a leash law in the county, there always seem to be folks who just let their dogs roam.

I agree with chic-n-farmer.

A ditch 5 feet from the road is probably county property. (easement)

The dog should always be restrained, never running loose. Neighbor needs retraining!

Your animals should still be protected, because when one predator is gone another will take it's place.
And in some locales, it's illegal to let livestock run loose.

It's not the dogs fault!! I say shoot the woman in the butt with a pellet gun everytime she lets her dog chase your birds. She has to be trianed properly or you'll never see the end of this.

Okay, just kidding but isn't it SOOOO tempting! What a jerk!

you need to call the police... tell them the lady threatened you and sent her dog after your birds... play it up...
Tell them that you are frightened to go outside and you think that shes going to have her dog kill your ducks... be all dramatic about it..
ask them what you can do about it... ask them what rights YOU have.....

Honestly, I would tell her the dog will be treated as a predator the next time you see it chasing your ducks. Then pass her a copy of the law that says predators can be shot/killed when a threat to a human or property. Although adding attack geese is a stroke of genius!

Shooting the dog is not the answer. Either with a gun or slingshot. It is not the dog's fault. Go after the owner. Check your leash laws. Document. Call the police.

Once you have the leash law facts, quote them to the owner and tell her in no uncertain terms that if her dog is off leash, whether on your property or in the street. You will inform the authorities.

Show her what he dog has done and maybe she'd realize what she's doing is stupid.

I live in a rural area. Generally speaking, the rules of engagement are shoot, shovel, shut up.

I agree with that, get something on file with the local police about a nuisance dog.

But I have one question though. Why are your ducks not behind some kind of security such as a basic fence? I am in no way taking the side of the dog owner, what she did is wrong no matter how you look at it. But one or your responsibilities when you decided to raise ducks should be keeping them safe from predators so that a dog running down the street couldn't just make a beeline for your ducks to kill them.
