My rooster still out called all 4 of my peafowl. My peafowl are louder but not noisy. One down fall for pen since the train goes 6ft into the air and 11ft wide. At the fair people would keep asking where her tail feathers are and I would point to them and they would respond it's not pretty though. Well neither male nor female have pretty tail feathers unless you consider solid black pretty.

Thats a cool run you have for them. I could never build something like that since the ground here is a nightmare to sink posts in.

FFA is awesome! I love showing at the Fair. It's lots of fun. Also at the fair I let kids feed him popcorn from their hands. Kids would ask their parents if they could get one. Usually parents would say no. Also I'm getting more peafowl. I'm getting whites and Black Shoulder male. That white with grey on her back is my Black Shoulder hen. The 2 in the grass pen are my Indian Blues and the one I show is a Spalding Split to White. So the one I show is a cross between a Burmese Green, Indian Blue, and a White peacock.
wow it sounds like you have a lot of fowl of different kinds and are you In 4-h or do you show through ffa

I show through FFA. I used to be in 4-H before I got into High School. When I was in 4-H I showed dog and 2 Fawn and White Indian Runner ducks. Kenia and Kida. They are trained. If I'm remembering correctly we put them 3 or 4' in the ground. I know they sit 8' out of the ground. I will double check tomorrow. No cement. Pack the dirt at an angle so rain just runs off. Get it wet and pack it and then seed with grass.

Interesting. I have always sunk my posts in concrete because the NJ soil is awful and digging deep enough NOT to use concrete is hard. I have heard 1/3 of the post length should be the depth of the submerged part. i.e. 6' post, 2' in ground, 4' out of ground.

Well that would work with mine. 12' post, 4' in ground, 8' out of ground. We use a post digger that attaches to a tractor so it's really easy. The grass helps keep the soil together with the roots. If you're wondering why I say Kenia and Kida are trained it's because they come when they are called. They are 2 years old and will be 3 years old March 1.
