all genetic genius' look here :)

A lot of people may not know that "F1" simply means the group of offspring produced by crossing the partridge color birds with the white ones.

When you say that the F1 crosses will be recessive white-yes of course but maybe you need to explain about expression of color in the F2 group and what F2 means.

Crysmom expressed confusion over breed vs. variety and now we are using uncommon terms.

The guy from Sandhill is completely swamped. He does care about birds.

Thanks Wren.. I certainly fall into the "dazed and confused" category. Especially when it comes to "recessive whites".. I'm not really sure what that means (unless it means they carry one recessive gene for white?).

so all colors that you end up with would still be the same breed (chanteclers) but since there are only two recognized colors brown partridge, and white. The offspring wouldn't be recognized colors?

so if I bred just the brown partridge I would end up with all brown partridge? because they should breed true?

and same for the white?

then if they are crossed you would end up with different colored offspring that would have one white gene and one colored gene then if the offspring were crossed some of the birds would be white because both the parents had white genes even if they weren't white?

I think that's what i've got from the responses

I"m not sure what I'm wanting to do with the birds anyway aside from eating eggs

but since we are building a coop I wanted to build it with optional dividers incase we do keep a rooster and decide to have chicks

as it is right now I ordered 15 partridge and 15 white eggs and they are going to be shipped so who knows what will hatch (hopefully something)

since its my first time with chickens, incubators, coops anything!
