All Grown Up Now ~ 41 Weeks Old~ New Pics Post 223(01/15/12)~

I know what you mean about the D'Uccles. I moved the 2 boys into the large fowl pen which chilled them somewhat, however, the smaller more feisty one has still taken me once. I will be interested to see what you think of the D'Anvers. I got the D'Uccles for my daughter, but now she is afraid of the roos.

Aubrey and others have said they can be territorial and super protective of the hens, but I'm hoping I won't have to deal with one that is just over the top. I've wanted these for over a year now and I finally have them.

My D'Uccle boy hasn't shown any aggression toward me since I guess he's still slightly afraid of me for some reason. I talk to him all the time, though I don't often try to pick him up. He's been a good boy so far.

They're 14 days old now. Check out these cuties! Kathyinmo, one of the two BRs I got from you is probably my cockerel--red banded baby near the waterer. The head spots are hard to judge on these, but the dark legs are what I'm going by to recognize my pullets, I think there are 3 or 4 out of the 7 from you and William. In the first pic, you can see how UNfeathered they are compared to the others, not a surprise at all, eh?

The waterer is on a holiday cookie canister, then on top of two 2x4 pieces on top of that so it stays cleaner. I never put a waterer on the floor or it would be chock full of shavings.

Plus, they aren't likely to fall asleep in it and drown like they might if it was on the floor.

got it... thanks. New to chickenry.... just trying to "absorb" it all
before my chicks arrive.

Cute chicks in your photos, by the way :)
