All I want for Christmas....

I just set 30 shipped Serama eggs (from Castle Delight Seramas) and 4 Serama eggs from my newly-laying pair (Black pullet, Exchequer cockerel)
They were set yesterday, so they should be due on December 7th! Very excited..and hope Santa comes early to make sure most of these hatch well, and end up pullets. That is my Christmas wish LOL!

My pair that I am getting eggs from (I have another pair who hatched on the same day, but she's not laying just yet) They are just under 20 weeks old, so they are a long way from what they'll look like as mature birds, but I hope they give me super pretty babies :D

The last time I ordered shipped eggs, 8 out of 14 had dislocated cells and the other 6 had extremely detached cells that didn't reattach after sitting for day. Only 2 developed, only 1 hatched. The seller sent more and it was the same story again, but the strange thing was that the eggs were amazing packed, each was wrapped in 2 layers of bubble wrap fitted snuggly together, surrounded by a ton of newpaper and plastic bags for cushion. On top of that, there were stickers covering the box saying things like, thank you postal men and how much we appreciate postal men as well as "fragile, live hatching egg" and they still came in a mess. I'm actually ordering from this same lady again hiping for better luck because I really like her birds and she does package her eggs well, she said she would double box them this time but I probably won't recieve them for another week and a half.

Eggs can still hatched with dislocated air cells can still hatch.

I am gonna try and hatch some eggs from my hens for this Christmas. I don't know if I can or will though because I am already packed as it is and I keep having to expand. The babies are so addicting though; once you get going, you cant stop.! My hens are also being lazy to and are not producing.

hahaha, same here. Have you joined Incubators anonymous? My parents put down new limits to how many chickens I can keep at one time, so I had to sell some in order to hatch again. And I haven't seen a egg in nearly 3 weeks from our 16 remaining hens that are currently laying, it's driving me nuts!

For expanding, I just watch craigslist for free or cheap dog kennel pannels, you know the ones that are 6 ft. high, and then I set them up inside our barn. I usually just hatch LF cohcins from my own flock, but this time I'm ordering something more expensive for a breeding porject, I can't wait!

You know, there's been a lot of debate in this forum on wether or not to request the seller not to lable the package as 'Fragile'. It might be you just have a disgruntled postal employee somewhere in your delivery chain, and labling the box makes it a target. I think in most cases it's not a problem though.

Yeah, I've seen a few threads about that. But there were also large, obvious stickers on the box thanking postal men and saying how much we appreciate them. I don't know. They seemed to be packaged very well, but the way they arrived said otherwise.

You'd think they'd be super customer-service oriented with how much business is hemmoraging to FedEx.

Unfortunately I think I had at least one detached air cell, but Marans eggs are so dark that it's hard to say. I've been trying very hard to not be crazy and candle my eggs yet until day 5, but I might give in and do it tonight :P. We'll see if I can even peek inside those dark eggs.
