All my birds died!

My condolences for your loss. I've been following this thread, and am no authority on what may have caused this. Why do you say the worst thing is the big outdoor pen is about ready? I know loss of birds is hard for most folks that don't have a bunch of'em, but hey.........get a fresh start. Spring is approaching, accept you loss, and make use of the big pen. Better yet, get'ya some Bobs in that big pen. Then, you'll be another one that will understand the "real" challenge of raisin' quail.....

Well Randall is right. The Birds are the cheapest part of the hole darn deal... It is depressing to loose so many so fast. But fill the big pen up with a new batch. Good chance to get the birds you REALLY WANTED!! Best of luck and keep us posted, Bill

I am so sorry to hear about you loosing your birds. The first thing that came to mind was the food or some type of poisoning as well. Good luck with any others that you may get. No need to let your "big" pen go to waste.

Hello I havent kept quails before, but My brother (first time at keeping quails) learnt the hard way, his quail decided to fly up in the night and hit his head on the cage roof killed himself instantly .. could something of made your quails scared in the night, where they are all flying upwards and hiting their heads too? I have heard of similar years ago, and i was told night fright killed them, where they cant see where they are flying but things make them really scared and they flap about panicking and do theirselves more harm

help i went in to my aviary and found 5 of my birds dead but they looked fine apart from thare were dead

Could be a couple of things....they may have died from exposure to too much cold. Make sure they have a box or coop to go into to keep them warm at night.

Could be from worms. Feel the breast bones....if they stick out like keels on a boat, it is possible they had too many worms.

Also some bacterial infection or virus might be running rampant thru the flock.

If you live in the northern hemisphere, it is most likely the first one.

thanks for that info i dont think it was the cold i have out numberd my bird with boxes could be the the virus but them why did that not all die ? the place where i got them from had said they had mited and de wormed them the week before i got them and it was both of my java finches 1 corden bleu and 2 bugies

These are finches and budgies? Budgies and many types of finches are not cold hardy. Where are you located? These types of birds cannot tolerate temps below 50 very well. Sudden death of birds all at once is usually something dramatic in their environment...quick temp changes, bad feed, worms, mold, getting wet, exposure to new birds, etc...You might want to get a necropsy done at the vets office to find out what they died from so fast. Next time one dies, put it in a plastic bag and keep in the frig, (not freezer) till you can get it into the vet for an internal exam.
