My favorite broody is currently sitting on eggs, her first batch this year. Last year she hatched two batches. I actually have 8 broody hens right now. One is a Black Australorp, 3 are Buff Orpingtons, 3 are Phoenix bantams and one is a Buff Silkie bantam. The australorp is sitting on 10 silkie eggs, the buff orpingtons have 15 Barred Rock eggs among the three of them, one phoenix bantam has an unknown number since she escaped the coop and has disappeared (we know she is still alive because we see her running to the coop and back to her nest) another bantam is sitting on about 10 of her own eggs (one is hatching as i write this!!!!
) and the other is sitting on 7 Barred Rock eggs, and the silkie is sitting on 9 of her own eggs!!!! so many mommys! im very lucky and very happy to have so many hens! Call me crazy but i want to get some meat chickens and turkeys tomorrow...if dad lets me...
