Hey, just to update, I found the remedy, well for the hens anyway. They want "wet" food ! I thought I would try just wetting it down a little, and they started eating it like it was something new. The rooster is not eating as well though. Maybe roosters need a different food ? I mix layer feed with scratch. They only get a small amount of bread now in the evening.

I have a rooster and I was advised against feeding my rooster layer feed. I am feeding them chick grower, and offering oyster shells.

I too use 20% Flock Raiser with oyster shell always available. They will eat healthy food if that's all that's offered.... Don't let them get use to lots of treats.... Make them just that--treats.

I swear by wet crumbles or pellets. I can give them a warm breakfast on cold mornings, and by wetting the food there is ZERO waste.
