That sounds familiar(it was only about 33 years ago,lol). It is a book I would recommend to everyone. Actually,it ought to be required reading.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, hands down.

It's a perfect book that works on so many levels. Why I liked it at 13 was so different than when I read it last year at 41. It is really one of the few MUST reads out there.

Jen - Have you ever read "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman"? I read that years ago, and enjoyed it. I get that it's not for everyone...

No, I haven't . I will have to look it up and see if I can get into it. My interests have changed over the years, and things that really caught my attention in my 20's, now I just cant get into. I am buried in a class right now, and while I am wading through APA style,(I hope whomever invented that little bit of joy is currently buring in the 7th layer of you know where)

, I am lucky if I feel like reading the postings on here.

Someone mentioned the Inkheart series. I would recommend those. They are great books, especially for someone who loves books and reading.
I've recently been reading a series called Percy Jackson. The first is Percy Jackson and the Olympians. There are four now. They are great young adult books that move mythology into current times. They are making a movie of the first to come out next year.
My very favorites...Interview with the Vampire, The Untidy Pilgrim, The Neverending Story, and the first Harry Potter

Pretty much anything by Fannie Flagg is good, but one I would highly recommend is Redbird Christmas.

I just started the Redwall series By Brian Jacques, it's pretty good if you like woodland creatures. Also, The Dragonriders of Pern By AnneMcCaffrey is Realley Good. I also Like, Harry Potter, Lord Of the Rings, Eragon, InkHeart, Narnia, Star Wars. Where the Red Fern Grows is awesome. As for choosing a favorite, that is IMPOSSIBLE, LOL!

Thanks for all of these great suggestions. I ended up getting, so far, To Kill a Mockingbird, Fresh Eggs, Animal Vegetable Miracle, The Prince of Tides. There were many others suggested that I will get with my other gift certificate. I am so looking forward to reading out back and watching my chickens chase bugs and try to get into my tomatoes.

Some of my favorites;

Fountain Head by Ayn Rand I loved Atlas Shrugged
East of Eden John Steinbeck
The Omnivores Dilemma Michael Pollan
and anything written by James Michener

Thanks again everyone!!

All the Jeanette Oake Books but Love Comes Softly was one of the best, one of my favorites and I absolutely loved the movie. I also really liked Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts. Loved A Walk to Remember too.
