Do you have them paired up or are they all sharing space? If they are all together you should think about separating them into pairs, button quail can be vicious to each other when they share space during mating season (all year more or less).I'm just starting out and have 5 Chinese quail. 2 female. I am happy with their set up, diet and lighting. I am hoping they go on the lay soon so I can get some in to my incubator. Really new to it all. I'm just paranoid they don't lay lol I'm always looking in from a distance and hopeful every morning but nothing as yet. Fingers crossed for quite soon.
I have 2 male and 3 female in together. I monitor their behaviour very closely and there is no cause for concern. They also have plant of space, access to fresh water and food. they get 14hrs of light and they are kept in my living room which is warm all the time. I have seen the male try to mate with a female but she's not quite ready yet. There's never been any drama in the cage as yet but I will keep an eye out. Are layers pellets any good as a full diet? I don't do that but was wondering if that would be okay. I give them mealworm as treats, about 6 each per day. I've also seen the male eat the mealworm.
I would love to see a picture of this. I wonder if there's a way around the uploading problem? :/

There is very good reason to keep them in pairs. Please don't think that your CBBQ are special and won't become aggressive when they all reach breeding age. You will end up with a dead bird or at best a seriously injured one with a 3:2 ratio. The two pairs may do ok together as long as they have enough space and were raised together, but I wouldn't risk it. If not kept in pairs females need to outnumber the males by at least 3:1 so the males do not have to compete for mates. I know they seem really small and its hard to believe this but they will murder each other with extreme prejudice as the saying goes. I don't want you to think I'm being rude, but I care about the health of your birds or I'd keep quiet.I have 2 male and 3 female in together.
