All you egg sellers out there!!! LOOK HERE!!!!

We only have 22 hens and sell the extras @ church & work for $2/dozen. That's in line with grocery stores' prices here in VA and we figure others are struggling with their grocery bill like us. But if your mom has folks willing to pay more, let them! It's all relative.

At work a Dozen large eggs is like $1.88, IF i sold them I wouldnt charge more than $2. That would cover feed expenses wich is all I would worry about. I dont know how much we sell organic eggs for.

I sell for 1.50 a doz, but more than 1/2 give me 2.00 a doz, if they buy orgianc eggs from the store. I even deliver for 12 doz or more. My hens lay up to 3 doz a day.

We sell ours for $2.00/doz and can't keep up with demand. Even in Michigan's horrible economy, nobody complains. Thank goodness we have quite a few OEGBs to keep our own family in eggs.

I do this, too. I've actually been told by some customers that I'm too cheap, but I feel as though that's a good price. I more than cover their feed and other costs at that price, and pocket a bit, too!

My mother, sister and sister-in-law don't pay - I just can't charge family.

I just moved from Monterey CA and I was paying upwards of $25 for a 50lb bag of organic feed. With the additional price of BOSS, scratch, grit and what have you, I would have had to charge $5.00 a dozen to make any profit. I never had more than half a dozen extra though, so I gave away a few to VERY special friends.

If you are feeding organic feed and the market will support it, you could compromise at 4.50 or sell half dozens at 2.50. Just an idea.

I sell to some local markets for $1.50 a doz and friends $2.00 a doz. I save any smaller eggs for us. I'm planning on getting more birds when I build my new coop. The demand is more than my supply. I sanitize my egg for sale to retail markets. This is a must under FDA which over sees the local food and health dept who conduct periodic inspections of retail markets. You can buy the egg soap and materials from most hatcheries or places that sell egg cartons and such. I also buy my egg cartons and put my farm's name on them. Many people do re-use egg cartons. I prefer not to. If the market that is selling your eggs, and they have not been sanitized, and a customer gets sick then the market can be sued as well as me as the egg supplier. Also the markets do get inspected from time to time to see if they are complying. It's a chance I'd rather not take. I think the eggs are perfectly ok when they aren't sanitized but my buyers prefer them to be, so I do.
