All You Quilters Out There... Go Buy All The Fabric You Can

I haven't done much sewing the last several years. I used to sew all the time. I recently went to buy a pattern and fabric and was appalled at the cost of fabric now! It seriously is cheaper for me to just go to the store and buy premade clothes. When did that happen sheesh!

Cotton production is down since land is being converted to corn for ethenol. China had crop failures. Factory production of fabric has been reduced from 25 factories to on 10 in the US now. Because the supply is limited the price has risen.

Still Cotton fabric prices have gone up 23 % over 50 years while prices for milk and bread have gone up 300%.

I'm going away in two weeks with my quilting group for the weekend. They are giving us a 25% coupon for a couple of fabric shops. I hope to have my taxes by then I'll be using that coupon. I need to get 4 more quilts done for the grandchildren.

I got an email this morning that ALL fabric at joann.com is on sale through Saturday, May 7.

Online only sales I believe it says.

! Wow! Those suckers are EXPENSIVE now!!), notions (thread, buttons, zippers, elastic, interfacing) and miscellaneous items like machine needles, marking chalk, fray stop, and items that need to be replaced periodically like buttonhole knives, scissors, etc. you can be looking at quite a bit of money. It really IS cheaper sometimes to buy premade, which is why ebay is my favorite online store! I can look through many categories / types of clothing, check measurements, and find items not available in my area for a FRACTION of what the poorly made, low quality stuff that can be found everywhere goes for. I've had a few misses with it, but those I've either listed and sold myself, or taken to a consignment store. I've got a whole chest of drawers full of fabric, and many brand new patterns that are on my "one of these days" project lists. I am like the other poster that referred to herself as a "fabric collector".
