alleged dark cornish hens?

Hi guys. This is my first time in this forum. We picked up two dark cornish "pullets" and I am wondering if anyone on here can confirm? We were told they were a couple weeks old, and I am suspicious that at least one of them is a cockerel. Thoughts?

They're probably between 6-8 weeks old. They both have pretty large red combs for their age but I'm not familiar enough with the breed to know whether this is too normal. In the third picture, the bird on the right has really thick legs compared to the one on the left. I would say that one on the right is most likely a boy. The other I'm not as sure on but the amount of red in the combs make me wanna say boy for both.

Based on the combs, I too am thinking they are both roos. Looking at pictures of adult cornish, the hens seem to have very small to almost nonexistent combs.

Neither of those look anything like a Cornish, dark or otherwise. They both seem to be silver based game crosses. Whatever they are I am thinking cockerels

I agree, those are in no way dark Cornish.

They look like mixed-breed cockerels with some game blood in them.

Here's a dark Cornish. The green-laced feathers are a defining characteristic, and she's a big bird. In the side-view, she is looking a bit rough since she's in the process of moulting.

I have a Dark Cornish hen and a roo. I am pretty sure yours are not DC's as DC's don't have any white feathers. They also should have pea combs and it doesn't look like yours have that either. Here is a picture of the pair when they were about 5 months old. Roo had just begun filling out and growing his neck and saddle feathers so he isn't at his final color pattern peak yet.


Male is the one to the left by the cottage cheese container. Look closely at their combs compared to yours too. Pullet is behind him. (Ignore the rooster at the top of the picture. Feed store sold him to me as a Jersey Giant pullet and it turned out to be a Creveceour rooster. lol! He has been re-homed to a 4 H member who might just get a ribbon for him since I am thinking he'll be the only Crev at the show.).

They are pretty birds, whatever they are I love the splash color!
