Allie & Bino, the albino orpington chicks

It's been a long winter here. Since I use no artificial light or heat things really slow down and frequently the eggs laid are frozen by the time I get to them.

The six girls with Bino are beginning to lay with more regularity, anywhere from 2-5 a day. Hopefully in the next couple weeks I'll get some in the incubator to see what results.

They are surviving the cold, thankfully. It's been down in the low single digits here the last few nights with daytime highs in the teens.

First eggs from Bino's flock test hatch are starting to hatch. There is a possibility some may be from another rooster who had gotten into his pen a couple weeks before I collected. He has been separated.

It is hard to tell at the moment, but of the five hatched this far, three have dark eyes, so not albino. Two appear to have the red eyes and may be, but they need to dry and get their feet under them. I should know in a few days if any major defects have shown up.
