Almost Done!!!

I am SOOO happy my wonderful hubbs has just about finished making our coop and run!! how old do the chicks need to be before they can sleep outside in their coop??

It depends on the weather..... mine started living out in their coop when they were about 5 weeks, but it was summer so the weather was nice, and almost hot!

The standard is to start them off at 95 degrees, then reduce the temp by 5 degrees per week until you reach outside temps. Granted, this is typically around 75 in the spring, but this time of year, you may need to keep them inside until they're fully feathered. 6-10 weeks perhaps?

Please dont think im cruel to my babies, but mine are outside in there coop now.

. I do have a heat lamp out there in there coop and they are in my babie coop which is covered on two sides and when it gets to cold i cover the other two sides up with boards and they have a nesting box they sleep in and the lamp points right at it. Mine have been out there since day one and i haven't lost one from any of my batches i have done this with. *knock on wood*

ok so 2 1/2 month old chicks can sleep outside?? we are in central fl and it does get cool at night...but they would be in their coop with the secured lid and shavings... do they need a blankie or anything... I know that sounds like a stupid question but we have never had chicken before...
