Almost epic fail!

So besides just joining and getting two baby chicks, I decided to go ahead and get two 1 yr old egg laying hens that are across between rhode Island reds and chochins I think. Anyway, the guy brought them over and we were still working on our coop. Their wings aren't clipped yet and before we knew it , they were flying out the back yard and over the fence! Thank goodness only one did, I had to run like a jack rabbit into my neighbors yard and pin it into the corner and catch him. I hope the neighbor didn't notice. So well, got them in a secure spot for now, and went to the store and got a big carrier until the coop is finished completely. That was a scary experience.! I will post pictures as soon as I get everything squared away! I have already picked out their names! Lavern and Shirley, lol. Lavern has a bigger red thing on top, and is a fisetey one! I am going to love these guys! Already had an egg, but when I got back from the store and found it, it was broken. Yay, they are going to be great layers! Got one question though. Do chickens get colds? I hope this ins't bad, she seems to be sneezing or something.

do you know the guy that brought you birds? Are his birds healthy? Please keep an eye on the one sneezing so see if it develops into something worse.

I didn't know him personally but I met him through a farmers market fellow here that are friends with him. He has a huge free range farm with many different types of chickens. Maybe it isn't sneezing, but I am not sure. Maybe it is more of a grunt or something. I have never been around long enough to know what kinds of sounds chickens can make, besides the normal one. He did say if there was any problems or if he could help to give him a call back and he would do anything he could or exchange for another.

I would recommend keeping your young and older birds strictly isolated from each other until you figure out what is going on with the hen. You may also want to post her symptoms in the Injuries and Diseases section of the Forum.

Yeah, I keep my chicks in the house in a plastic bin with a light. I will call him as soon as it seems like it might be something. I do have them pinned up in a large travel wire kennel, until I get the wings clipped tonight and finish the coop. I know the farmer will have no problem replacing her if she is ill. I am just not sure whats up with her, maybe she is mad she is pinned up, but then again the other one isn't doing it.
