Hey there everyone! I currently live on Long Island and my family and I ( mostly me though ) is getting ready to get some chickens for our house! We have a section in the backyard that we are fencing off for them and we get the coop on Monday. Then, hopefully we get chickens Tuesday!

Only thing is, New York law says that we have to buy chicks with a minimum of six, though we only want two. I would prefer to get chicks so we can train them and understand them instead of getting older hens and seperating them from the rest of the chickens.

I'm hoping I can post somewhere on facebook, or here as a matter of fact of people who are looking to get chickens and then I can sell the four that we do not want to a lovely and NICE chicken lover!

I can't wait to get more familiar with this site and use it often and hopefully everything works out!

Welcome :welcome Some places ( I know MyPetChicken does ) will ship a minimum of three .... I personally prefer having three, should you lose a chicken somewhere down the road you will not have a lonely hen. Check out your state thread here, someone close to your location may be able to help getting a few chicks

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Did you purchase a pre-fabricated coop? If you did, you will want to add a proper run on to it as these coops ALWAYS are grossly undersized for the number of birds they claim to house. I also would recommend that you do not have just 2 birds. If something happens to one of them, the other would be left all alone and that is not good.
Meyer Hatchery in Ohio also has a three chick minimum. Good luck with you new chickens.
