Alpha hen being a B#@%!!!

I just put them in around 9 or 930 when I have to go to bed. They are out from 7am-930 at night but they have to go in when I go to bed because we have so many predators.

My hens get picked up and carried for a few minutes when they try to get aggressive with me. I also sometimes peck them on the head with my finger. Not hard enough to hurt them, just so they know who's boss. These two methods work wonders with my girls. Doesn't always work the first time, but I haven't had to do it more than 3 times at a go. That being said, I have Orps, which aren't known to be a very difficult breed.

Haha Halie. I know you aren't kidding. I talk to my dogs and chickens like they are people. My neighbors probably think I'm crazy!!!

So I just started with my little flock and my alpha hen Pearl is driving me crazy. At first all the other girls would go back in the coop but I always had to catch her. Now they all follow whatever she does wich now means chasing chickens every evening before we can go to bed. Last night when I tried to round them up she was aggressive and flying at me!!!! Most of the time she really is a sweet girl except when i try to get her to do something she doesn't want to do. Ugh!! What to do?????

Can you post some photos of your hens?
How old are they?

Could possibly one of your hens be a cockerel?

Sounds like they are still young.
Chickens are creatures of habit. Once they establish safe sleeping quarters, they will always return. But not until the sun descends.

Here are my girls. It's the cuckoo
maran that thinks she is the boss of the world. They are all around 14-16 weeks.
