Alphabet themed quail hatch-along. Day 1

So sorry about the outcome of this hatch. Sadly hatching is such a gamble and doesn't always have a good outcome. I hope the 3 survivors grow up to live long full lives!
Tell your son we're all very sorry for his loss. I know it is very devastating to try so hard to get them to hatch day and not have a successful outcome. We'll all be here waiting to cheer on your next hatch whenever that maybe.

What upset him most was the birds that did hatch but died shortly after. He didn't manage to get them out of the incubator before they passed. Of course, when he removed their little lifeless bodies they were still warm. He struggled with that for a few days. We had a chat about how fragile life is and how lucky we are that we were born and thrived and that is why we should value our lives and live well and long. It was a very valuable life lesson.

One of the birds is actually one from our own covey. He decided to stick 8 eggs from home in the incubator for one last try. He's on day 5. Fingers crossed. Thank you so much for your support. I will pass on everyone's kind words .

Please tell your son how very sorry we all are for his loss. Poor lad, he tried so hard. I can only imagine the devastation. Here's a video for him to maybe help lift his spirits.

Do you know which type of quail the 3 survivors are?

One is definitely a Tuxedo. I'm thinking Lizzie is a dark Sparkly and the greenhouse bird is a Pearl. I'll know better in a week or so once all the feathers come in. They are gorgeous amd healthy.

The second (smaller) bird is a Tuxedo.

The third bird is Lizzie, who may be a Sparkly.

It's a shame more of them didn't hatch because the 3 that did hatch are all beautiful birds.
