Getting presents for my wife is like playing Russian Roulette with an automatic. Last spring she wanted a pedicure, so I got her a gift certificate for Mother's day. She must really like the gift certificate cause she still has it.
My hubby got me a lego set that I pointed out at walmart and we went shopping and he got me a camo jacket since mine are too thin or covered in chicken poo from cleaning out the coop!
AND YES, I LOVE LEGOS AND MUSTANGS
so easy to buy for. I got a dishwasher as a gift once, I wasn't offended either, much better than hand scrubbing!
You hubbies are doing great. Secretly we women brag about the things you get us. To your face we are like: What were you thinking! Idiot! To our friends we are like: Wasn't that so sweet? He's just the best! I have no idea how he thought of this!
My hubby bought me a Jeep one year. Don't get all impressed or anything. Just a plain grey used Wrangler with a hard top. Got those giant knobby tires that sling mud 20 feet in front of it. Black roll bar with KC Daylighters so you can see the mud slinging all round you after dark. First thing that came out of my mouth: I can't afford to drive that! Then immediately drove it to work the next day to show the co-workers. Us gaggle of gals gabbed for an hour about that thing.
The next year I asked for a winch for the Jeep and he comes home with one the size of a baby rhino. Ain't no way that thing could fit on that Jeep. So he got the next smaller size. The fella who installed it said I could pull an elephant with that winch. I rolled my eyes but showed it off to my gal friends. And to be perfectly honest, I can't afford to drive that Jeep that often but it comes in handy around the farm. Every time I have to winch the tractor out of the mud I remember the pleased look on my husband's face when he gave me the key. It's a memory I don't want to forget. Thanks guys for trying. We really, really do appreciate your efforts.
One year I bought my wife a new stove as ours one burner was shot and the oven would sometimes quit in mid bake. I was going to have the store deliver it on the 24th. My 3 sons got wind of it and must have ...kinda...asked DW what she thought about a new stove. She got hoppin mad and told them she had better not get a stove for Christmas. Said appliances were not fit presents. I had to cancel it on the 20th and run around and buy some sweaters, etc and even got her a dinner ring that she could wear when going out. Ended up having them hold the stove till Jan. 5th and delivering it. So that was an expensive Christmas idea. Never again.....
My Dh is getting me the same thing he got me last year...but this year he let it slip, bless his heart. He called on the way home from work and said 'I haven't gotten you anything for Christmas'. Same thing as last year. Who is surprised? Not me....he already annouced to me....woman who has done ALL the Christmas shopping for my DD and all his D's....that he would just be glad when it was over!
And really.....do Bless his Heart. He needs it. He really can't handle shopping for me, much less anyone else. He did let me buy the cochin hens to go with Harry. Harry being the only cochin I had and the rooster beat him up so I made him a pen in the big run and he was oh, so lonely. Now he has to build another coop...and knows it. Then he let DGD buy two EE's.....so the new coop will have to be a duplex. Then I found some rooster rubber boots online and I ordered them for myself and when they got here said look honey what you got me for Xmas. Then the microwave went out....that he had since microwaves came out and way before me. We were walking to the front of the store and he said 'theres your Christmas Present'. (I said how is it that the one that went out was yours but this one is mine?) Before we got paid out we went back to the fridge's with a girl we knew that worked there and bought a new fridge for the kitchen he is going to remodel for me 'soon'.
So, all and all I am happy. If all the grown kids, our two special needs kids and the grand kids have a good Christmas that is what is important. I have been cooking for three days for a very simple Christmas Eve dinner that is going to be soup and sandwiches. Up early this morning and starting more stuff. It is not Christmas without the goodies. Orange Cream Cheese Pound Cake, Sour Cream Twists and a table full of finger foods.
It has to be about the reason for Christmas, people putting thought into what they get for others, and having time with the ones you love. If my DH is surprised by what everyone gets, so be it. He already has a clue because he got the bank statement already. Maybe next year he will help shop!! Oh, but he does shop early Sunday mornings right before Christmas.....SOMEONE is always going to get something they are selling on HSN!! That is a sure bet! You fellas just keep trying.......
I usually buy some nice kitchen toy for the wife. She buys me a nice compound mitre saw or something like that. This year the kids got all the money spent on them. I did let her get a small dog finally. She's been wanting a lap dog for a few years. I told her she could have one when the other 2 dogs go dead. looks like they still have some juice left though. So I gave in. This dog even sleeps with us. That's a first.
Just being together is the best gift. 25 years May 17th, or is that April.
