mmmm Chocolate.

Chocolate and power tools. Very nice. Its been a long while since we've bought any tools. I still need to get the drill press up and rolling, and the miter saw needs a new table built for it...

choococlateee...

I need a saw. Dad won't let me play with power tools and DBF only lets me borrow his saw.

I love my tools! When we built our first project, a dog house, I didn't want to know how to use a skill saw, drill or what not. I knew how to use a hammer though

. Then when we were building the first coop, mom worked late and didn't get home before dark. This really streatched the time it took to build the coop. I watched this time, since I had secret plans for a tractor. I watched her secretly (stalker much) and learned how to work the skill saw, jig saw, drill, and sander. I usually stay away from the skill saw because I don't feel safe with it. The jig saw and drill are my best friends. They work hand in hand. With these 2 tools, I built my bantam tractor. Anyone can do it. It might not look good, BUT it gets done.

Don't tell my DH but I believe I am getting better at this stuff than he is!
I am on my 7th one already in less than a year that I have built by myself. DH is on his second M*A*S*H unit.
They may just be tractors but so far all my birds are loving it. And I have the best time building them!
My dad left me a great legacy with all these power tools and I am happy to feel his presence when I am building. He and I built the barn here when DH and I first bought this farm.
I may be woman but I roar with the best of them!

My DH is a paint foreman for a large construction co., and he knows all about paint and painting. (except for at home application!) But carpentry? Nada. He made some steps for our old cat to get on the bed. And as soon as he left for work, I put the bracing in. It was wobbling all over. He has a lot to learn, but gets an A+ for trying!

I'm no expert, but I have a book- "Modern Carpentry, 1976. It's a treasury of info, great drawings and pics.

Nadine, I looked at your BYC page- great tractors and coops!

I have that book too, or one that must be much like it- its a complete carpentry handbook from way back when, everything from how to hammer to how to build a house. I picked it up at the transfer station up the road... what a find! why would someone ever want to throw it out?

No kidding, but some folks just don't understand "treasure"! When DH and I married, my ex-boyfriend gave it to us! He is a GC, Home Inspector, super duper carpenter who takes pride in his work. And still a very dear friend.

I have learned a lot from the book from just reading it for entertainment at night. I say haunt the used bookstores for a good book, it will be invaluable!

Also, I am a fan of Harbor Freight stores- lots of useful gizmos hidden here and there.

I grew up following my Dad. At 2 years old I was trying to follow him onto the roof of the barn. I love building things. When I got married I had to show my DH how to use a hand saw. He didn't think twice when I said I wanted a table saw. When my Dad died My son got most of his tools, so I have been using those. When he gets out of college I guess I'll have to get my own.
