I am preparing for my new chicks, and trying to make some decisions about what I wil feed them. I'd like them to eat as healthfully as possible, and as close to a "whole food" diet as possible, while meeting all their nutritional needs.

There seems to be the standard diet of crumbles, pellets, scratch, kitchen scraps, etc., and I am wondering what other regiminies or feeding options are out there? Are there specifically "organic" brands of feed, or is there some kind of whole food chicken diet? Thanks!

I've chosen to provide my flock with organic feed, even though not all their treats are organic. I just like to know that the bulk of their feed hasn't been exposed to the chemicals that are used so commonly in crop production. I also like that the scratch grains include more than just cracked corn and ground oats (or wheat, or whatever it was) and the grains are mostly whole. I order my feeds from Countryside Natural .
