Can Altsterier chickens be feather sexed, or sexed by their down? I have some eggs in the incubator and I am very excited. They are the BBR type. Also I was wondering if they are particularly noisy? It's funny, all the photos I see on the internet their mouths are open. Lol

Well we are very happy with our Altsteirers, they are an amazing egg layer. We should be hatching our first chicks next week.

How old were your girls when they started laying? My two pullets are 17 weeks and starting to spend some time in the nesting area making nests. Hoping for some pretty white eggs soon!

We bought ours as mature breederz from Greenfire, so they were laying when we got them. I understand they are early layers though.

Our Altsteirer's are still laying like crazy. We have fertile hatching eggs in the incubator, so we should have chicks for sale soon

FYI - "Tilly's Nest" website has an article on how/why the new avian flu is spreading starting in Alaska and taking 4 flight patterns throughout the entire U.S. and how the viruses mutate -- being a nurse she's always on top of medical issues re: chickens. The AI is not just in CA now but the Northeast (MA) is also affected.

I received this chick as a freebie with an order. I am thinking it is rooster, but was wondering if anyone had thoughts on this.[IMG]

I was told it is a white altsteirer
I hope to rehome him to someone who needs him. I don't plant to do anything with this breed.
