Has anyone ever had a bird with malpositioned alular quills? I have a couple chicks sporting somewhat elongated, fleshy alulars, and the feathers jut out from the body kind of like angel wings. I can find nothing about this in the literature.

Lol... I feel like I am single handedly collecting every poultry aberration there is.
I know the alular is the first digit, so it's the first filange, or finger, but have no clue what's going on with your birds. It's interesting though.

I have a hunch this has to do with the polydactyl Gene's, as these are Sultans. But there is no extra bony growth, just an extra little fleshy nub sprouting these feathers. This chick has it on both wings, and another clutch mate has it on only one.

Oh, and it's been noticeable right along.

That could be it. Polydactily causes strange things sometimes. I've read somewhere that an extra digit can sometimes have no bone.
