Am I a Blue Americana?

EE seems like a breed to me... just not accepted by the APA as of yet. Aren't there people trying to get it accepted? Seramas are considered a breed, even though they're not APA yet, and they breed all kinds of crazy colors.

Hi Y'all,

For those truly interested in understanding the difference between Araucana, Ameraucanas, and Easter Eggers (EE's), there is a plethora of information already discussed on BYC. Just do a search for the applicable term. As for Ameraucanas and/or EE's, you can just do a search with me as the Author.

Just FYI, your chick is nowhere close to looking like a Blue Ameraucana. And it is a EE. The willow green legs are a dead give away.

Btw, as I always say, there's nothing wrong with EE's. They just ain't Ameraucanas.

Oh, and EE's will never be a recognized breed because of what actually defines an EE.

God Bless,

SCNA is currently working for acceptance as a true breed in the ABA and APA organizations, with many breeders concentrating on a pure white bird. This is so there is a single focal point for entry, with a bird that comes in literally thousands of color variations and feather patterns.

I dont know why every EE thread has someone who says that willow legs are a dead give away of an EE.

Willow legs are the APA standard for all color varieties of Araucana except for white.

Ameraucanas have slate legs.

I just got 4 EE chicks. Below is a pic of them at a few days old (disregard the white guy

), and the next pic is from a few days ago... 2 of mine look just like your cutie pie

It's because an EE will not ever be confused with an Araucana by a person who is knows anything about the Araucana breed.

THEREFORE, a bird lacking the slate coloration if it is black or slate...and has willow colored legs INSTEAD of the aforementioned accepted colors for Ameraucana legs, are considered Easter Eggers.

Probably because most of those threads, like this one, are referring to Ameraucanas and not Araucanas.

While the hatcheries routinely misadvertise their EE's as Ameraucanas (or in some cases "Americanas"), it is rare to see an EE (or anything else for that matter) sold as an Araucana.

God Bless,
