Am I a genius or an idiot?

OMG I'M IN LOVE! :bowWill you marry me? No, wait, sorry, I'm already married. Listen! You have hit the nail SO HARD on the head! Your text resonated like a sonic boom! :woot:yesss:
I'll be 67 four weeks from now and I'm really ready for this.
Just let me have my coffee and maybe something for the old arthritis and look out world!
Seriously, thank you for permission. How did you know? Are you an artist by any chance? :hugs

oh good, I'm glad it resonated, it's always a little risky just coming right out and saying what I sense but it was kind of right out there in plain sight if you ask me. :~). so much can be done with the cordless tools out now adays. Ridged is a decent brand, Makita is my fave. so much can be done with a circular saw and a drill. I recommend decking screws instead of nails, they give you options to undo and make easy modifications, the star type are the best, skip the phillips head, they strip out and are frustrating. the more you do it, the easier it gets!

some of us have the kinds of minds that latch on to puzzles and start solving, anxiety is often the worst right before we get started, un-cuff your hands and mind and get building, the tension/creative force comes in waves and it is relieved by having an outlet!
And, yes, I am a puzzle solver! Not in the original sense of the word. Puzzles on the table bore me. Yet I find myself working out solutions to problems life throws at me or family, problems with work situations, etc. Heck, I cant play any of hubbys shoot em up video games (get too overwhelmed) but gimme the video game "Portal" and I am killing it! Yup. I'm a Creative Problem Solver. Thanks again!

I think the key to getting started, at least it was for me, is to be OK with not being efficient, things take as long as they take and a redo here and there is to be expected. my neighbor kind of laughs at me when he sees me undo stuff, I just tell him that I'm a do it right the third time kind of guy but once I get it, I get it just the way I like it and it often lasts a very long time and gives me great satisfaction. hobbies are things you love, are willing to throw time and money at with low enough expectations to have a good time... before long, you start to get good at it.

It might be harder to make that chain link run into a coop,
than building a wooden coop from scratch.
The roof is the tricky part.
Not sure the chain link walls would support a ~12x12 roof, and the snow it would gather. Depends on how you plan to construct the roof. Plan carefully.

Maryjane, the large Lavender Orpington, is the roo. The breeder guarantees Lavender pullets and will exchange any that come up roos for a Lavender pullet. Since Mr Roo has learned to crow I want to get this done quickly, but breeders lavs are not ready for outdoors. He offered me 2 Black Autrolorps instead if I want them right now. I'm going for it. He will sell the roo bu not to worry, no one that buys a $20+ chicken has it destined for he stew pot.:thumbsup
FYI Roos taste just like chicken.

Point well taken. I'm thinking a 12 inch slant roof so snow slides off, not sure of materials yet. I'll keep in mind to stay lightweight.

What sort of predators are you dealing with?

Budget always comes into play at some point. Are you comfortable sharing what yours is?

I will definitely try to keep my suggestions on the less expensive side as that allows more chickens. ;)

@Cryss I am thinking of getting a resin shed which would require some minor tweaks to make it into a coop. I think that something like that would fit into your run. Plus, I know you have some skills with the mods you did. I have to learn how to use most tools other than hammer and nails. :D
Something to think about.
