Am I being cheap or frugal?

I have no objection to it -- it is thrifty -- but I wouldn't want to have to deal with all the work and mess etc. Getting away is a nice time to be able to NOT have to cook for a change. That is my opinion -- do you want to go easy on your own self and your workload while you're on vacation? Besides, if you look into non fastfood options, like ethnic restaurants (Mexican, some Asian places, etc) they are often quite cheap and healthy too (depends on the restaurant).

I take my George Forman grill on trips. I can use it in a shorter amount of time, it grills veggies, makes toast, eggs, and cooks meat. What's not to love?

Most definately FRUGAL!!!!

I think it's a great idea. Only thing is, why would you have to "sneak" it in. You're renting a room with a kitchen!!! They can't possibly expect you not to use it!

I love the idea. Don't forget to take extra utensils, those kitchenettes usually only have the bare minimum, one or two spoons, one or two forks etc.

I have Celiac Disease which means I can't eat anything with Wheat, Rye or Barley in it, so when we stay out of town we often rent a room with a kitchenette. It's so much more convenient knowing I can just stop at the grocery and make my own. Not to mention cheaper. Unfortunately I usually have to fly so no crock pot for me.

A crockpot, paper plates and plastic utensils isn't that much to clean up. Some fresh bread picked up at a bakery would make the meal seem even more special

Over the years, I have found myself more and more disappointed with restaurant food. It just doesn't taste as good as what we cook ourselves. Plus, it is often much more fattening.

I love alfredo sauce. We went to a restaurant and I could tell that the sauce came from a package. bleck! If I am going to spend that much money, I want real, fresh ingredients.

I'm carrying a bottle of febreze with me! I hope that hides some of the smell LOL. I want to thank everyone! I showed my mom the thread and she said she didnt realize how snobby she had sounded and apologized (which you dont hear very often believe me!) And I got some great ideas....You guys are sooo great!

I think you're being smart! When my husband and I go to visit family in Wyoming, it's a 2 day drive. We pack our own breakfast and lunch so we don't have to stop and eat anywhere. It works out well for us because my husband doesn't eat very much when traveling, so there's no point in stopping at a restaurant or stopping at a gas station and eating junk food.

Frugal AND the healthy choice to cook it yourself! WAY TO GO YOU!!!!

I did this on our beach vacation... the hotel even had a grill, so I brought our own meat and charcoal to cook out. My sister said it was ridiculous and we should have just ordered pizza, or went out to dinner. I think grilling out at the beach while we were there was the BEST option and I think it tasted better then trying to choke down $100 restaraunt bill!
