cottontail, those are SO CUTE. I didn't get to these until the site went down, so sorry for the late response. I did SEE them though, and they helped me cope with waiting lol.
Those are dewlap Africans right? Who's the little yellow one? Is that a Chinese? So precious.
And your cat has a little milkstache! I have a girl of my own living in the brooder room (my room lol). She's pretty much lost all her fascination with baby birds by now, haha.
As for my geese, I DID get some little goslings. The day after mother's day, my three dewlap toulouse eggs hatched into this:
And let me tell you, it's a world of difference imprinting these guys right before and after they hatch. It's a two-way street too; I wasn't expecting to feel this much love and worry over them! As a matter of fact, as soon as those little goosie eyes looked at me, I was so in love that I immediately felt distress for my goslings in the mail. I felt awful for putting them through shippnig. Rationally, I know they'll be ok, but emotionally I think I was going through the thoughts of putting my OWN babies in a box and shipping them away, and having anxiety over that irrational feeling.
Wednesday morning, my little babies from Metzer arrived. Here they are!
A pair of dewlap toulouse (the little boy is in front, girl in the back) and four runner ducklings. They arrived clean, alert, and healthy, if a little frightened. They ate ALL the gro-gel, which I hear they generally don't touch? As soon as I put food and water down for them, they attacked it. The imprinting isn't as strong, but they've grown attached to me and still follow me. They're so precious!
Metzer gave me a tracking number before they shipped out, which I appreciate. Hopefully they're fixing up whatever communication issue they had.
I will say that these goslings are much smaller than the ones I hatched, despite being the same age. I'm keeping the little boy weighed to make sure he's growing, as he's the smallest. They're still eating a lot, bright, and alert, however.
