Am I crazy?

He's a handsome guy! Do you have any idea what happened to him?

I have no idea. He was hopping on one leg when I left them out of the coop this morning. I was at work all day yesterday so didn't see them because i didn't get home until after 8. My other half put them up for the night and said he didn't notice any limping

He's waiting patiently for them to come xray his leg. Im hopeful that it's not broken. The quote for putting a pin in his leg is $500!
As sad as this will sound, I just don't know that I can really justify that. I wish I was really rich because I wouldn't hesitate to pay that. But like everyone else, I'm not

That seems to be the way these things go (at least, they do for me)...one day they're fine and the next day there's a problem.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you & Hiccup :fl

He is a real looker. I would ask if there is a more conservative treatment, where they could try to reduce a dislocation, and let you manage him at home with rest and or splinting. Chicken chairs and slings are good for resting in. Some chickens will break their necks (figuratively) to try and get out of them, but they are good to get them upright and in front of food. Here is a good link with pictures of the various ones that people have designed:

If you are crazy, you are crazy in the best possible way. I have spent way too much money at the vets' lately (I have both a "small animal" vet who cares for my cats and 96-pound Great Pyrenees dog, and a "large animal" vet for the sheep, mini-goats and poultry). I am fortunate that one of my vets has kids who are 4-H'ers and raise chickens!

Even with chickens I've gotten for free, I always try to give them the best care I can. It gets harder when you know you can't afford it. Best of luck to you and Hiccup, who is amazing looking!

Sadly the news is not good. It is indeed broken. I can't for the life of me figure out how, but unfortunately it is.

I don't see splinting it as really helping. And I can afford surgery to pin it. Oh, and euthanasia is $135!!! Ugg
While that is a horrible break, it’s clean.
We support you in any decision you come to but I’d be willing to splint that leg.
Are you still there?
Can you talk to the vet about it?
