Am I going nuts? Bantam chick “crowing”?

Most likely something was stuck in his very tine throat- this is why they need crumbles feed and as much as I dont like purnia, the chick feed dissolves well and is small--could have been wood flake
I only feed them crumbles for sure! All our babies get 20% crumble. We do sift the bedding as best we can (we use pine shavings) before putting it in with the youngins. I’ve never seen him (or any of them) trying to go at the shavings before and we check at least hourly to sift shavings out of the feeders (mornings are when they’re piled up the worst like that because they like to kick shavings in there 🤭). But I know even with a good eye out, they certainly could be eating them when we don’t notice.

I did gently feel his throat and crop (nothing was out of the ordinary) and he’d had a drink about five minutes before the noise without issue. 🤔
I’ve seen chicks adjust their crops before but none have ever made a noise and it was a completely different motion - this chick pulled his shoulders back and leaned his head forward then up like our outside cockerels do when they’re also crowing. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on him though to make sure though certainly! It is around the time our outside boys usually start their morning hello so it’s one reason I was extra suspicious of crowing.

Well ,God only knows, Ya keep and eye on him.
With this new batch of chicks I had one that had Wry neck, and every time it tried to walk its head turned all the way around and it just fell down. it died

Oh my, no more room for confusion. I caught another doing it! Going to figure out how to upload a video. Same age as the other. 😂 This one’s a bit of a little jerk though. I’ve got my hands full!

It seems like it for sure! He looked SO pleased with himself too, as much as a chick can. Puffed up a bit and looked at me, cheeped, came over to see if I brought goodies, then turned tail and scurried to play when he realized I didn’t in fact bring chickie tribute. He’s got a heck of a lot of personality already. :gig

Not even our 6 week old standards are crowing yet (took ours outside until about 8 weeks and some still aren’t), so I was just downright baffled. The first time I thought it was a fluke, but he kept doing it and I was finally certain I wasn’t imagining him doing it. But just can’t figure out how on earth he would be crowing if he is! I even checked his crop to make sure nothing was stuck and he wasn’t making a distress noise. Nothing felt off with that either!

Truly puzzled. It is THE squeakiest but most confident noise I’ve ever heard out of a chick.
I also have a bantam roo attempting to crow it shocked me wasn’t sure what I was hearing so and sat to watch and wait and sure enough he’s testing his crow vocals along with one other roo they are about 8 weeks old in a outdoor brooder with a mini run.

That’s so funny! Chickens are a new surprise at every turn. 🤭 They sure like to hear themselves. 😂

Raising the feeder and water dispenser to shoulder height will prevent much of the bedding to get scratched into it.

The youngest cockerel I had crowing was a BCM at five weeks and he then proceeded to annoy his momma hen by jumping on her back multiple times trying to mate with her.
