I only feed them crumbles for sure! All our babies get 20% crumble. We do sift the bedding as best we can (we use pine shavings) before putting it in with the youngins. I’ve never seen him (or any of them) trying to go at the shavings before and we check at least hourly to sift shavings out of the feeders (mornings are when they’re piled up the worst like that because they like to kick shavings in thereMost likely something was stuck in his very tine throat- this is why they need crumbles feed and as much as I dont like purnia, the chick feed dissolves well and is small--could have been wood flake

I did gently feel his throat and crop (nothing was out of the ordinary) and he’d had a drink about five minutes before the noise without issue.

I’ve seen chicks adjust their crops before but none have ever made a noise and it was a completely different motion - this chick pulled his shoulders back and leaned his head forward then up like our outside cockerels do when they’re also crowing. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on him though to make sure though certainly! It is around the time our outside boys usually start their morning hello so it’s one reason I was extra suspicious of crowing.
