Am i nuts?

Well...I just started with the duck thing and got six pekin ducklings a.month ago...my wife thought I was nuts but has since grown to love them...I built a nice run and house...well I did a bad thing...TSC had six khaki campbells left and I was planning on adding khakis or welsh harlequins to my flock next year if everything worked out. Well I ended up adding four khakis now. I got them home thinking my wife would think I am even crazier. She says...u left two at the store all by themselves...hehe

Anyways...I am loving my ducks. I have always wanted to raise some and they are so comical. Its good entertainment to let them roam supervised and drink a beer and watch the antics. Add in the interaction with my two dogs and its better than tv.
The only regret I have is not reading about duck math sooner. I can't wait for the pekin and campbell eggs. I am raising them for pets/eggs and already have neighbors asking about eggs!

Our bug guy today said he thought it was cool we had ducks as pets and had heard their eggs are really good. I said "They are, want to take some with you? We have more than enough." So I sent our bug guy home with a dozen eggs after he finished spraying and laughing at me as I herded the ducks to the back yard so I could put up temp fencing around the house for a few hours to give the bug spray time to really dry.
I pretty much offer up eggs to anybody that comes here

Congrats on the ducks...isnt duck math GREEEEATTTT.
I love my Pekins and I too sit and watch them all day long. Nothing better than big fat white ducks waddling rounds doing their thing. I also have Runners, they are waaaay funny, you should get some of them if you think Pekins are entertaining wait till you have a few Runners.

Your nutz????? Then I must be slap off my rocker...

a month ago my wife and I kicked around getting two chocolate runner ducks a drake and a hen. Well that got blown out of the water when we visited our local TSC.. came home with 3 rouens and a khaki campbell. The KC got killed by a cat, so back to TSC we go and get 2 more ducks (have to get them in pairs)...

I Now have a dozen and a half Khaki Campbell, another dozen and a half of Welsh Harlequins and an assortment of Golden layers and mallards in the incubators right now. First set will hatch next week, the second will follow two weeks later. Also I'm setting 120 pekins for a friend, and that doesn't count the 4 dozen chicks due to hatch next week and the other 2 dozen eggs that will be coming in this weekend (coronation and white sussex).. Oh forgot my broody serama who just hatched out one, and 2 more are working. This in addition to the mountian of eggs that are slowly consuming my wife, kids and I from my layers! I gotta put a sign out front ASAP!

Oh and I got an email from a friend of mine who happened to find some chocolate runner eggs... They are in his incubator.

Dont get an incubator then you will be nuts! I started with 2 campbells last spring. One we lost to a raccoon. So had to get her a mate and got a fawn runner male Sammy he is crazy! Then this winter started to incubate their eggs. Now I have Sammy Laurel and Libby(their baby) in the back yard. Sold Libbys brother the other day, and have 5 more in the brooder. One is a pekin we got at the feed store for free. By the way campbells lay great!

And you are not crazy... I had two ducks... Indoor pets... Seems manageable right? Then we got two more because my fiance wanted to have his own imprinted ducklings.... that same week two adults were dumped on us.... My indoor ducks tripled in about 3 days! Now they all have their own pen in their own bedroom with an air purifier, humidifier, heater when needed, AC when needed, spa time in the tub every night, and they eat better than we do. At least 60% of my food bill is extra treats and food for the ducks. lol
