Am I the only nut that weighs eggs?

Don't feel so bad. I have 5 chickens and only one is laying.

Three are the same age and one is laying, what's up with that?

I adopted two older (so I coud have eggs), 1 year old and they are doing zip!

My girlfriend says I am going to have the most expensive eggs in town when get done

I weigh! Lucy started laying on the 2nd and has layed everydays since. Eleanor started 3 days ago and uses a diff nesting box. my eggs are averaging 1.5 oz....tiny things. That's ok. I put i all on an excel spreadsheet, but DH made such fun of me I'm doing it by hand now and hididng it!

Yes, I have, only because I sell them and I wanted to make sure (less the carton weight) that my customers were getting the full value.

I found that my eggs are a little heavy -- but that is ok, because I want the customer to get a full value.

Our eggs are sold according to size.
Size uniformity really does make a good impression on customers.
That means every egg must be weighed.
Plus they've got to be candled to insure interior quality.

We've done this for years.
Selling uniformly sized, high quality eggs will not only keep customers coming back, but will bring in new customers by word of mouth.

If you enjoy detailed records as I do...an ounce scale, a small feed scale, and trapnests are a must.

Sure. I'm actually finishing it up. I started it, but didn't get around to finishing it for this year. You have to actually put the number of eggs in manually, but it's not hard. Say you got two eggs today, so you put 2 in the box. Tomorrow you get 3. So the 2 and 3 is 5, just change the # to 5. That's the only "work" you'll have to do with it. I'm no spreadsheet genius either. There may be better, easier methods, but I've done the best I can teaching myself. I'll email it to you when complete.

I randomly choose eggs and check up on the weight. With as many as I get in a day it is far too time consuming to do each one.
