SWKansas: Mine started laying almost a month ago. I gave those to a friend, cause she was ready...I was not ready. I started 84 end of March and I am at day 12, but many are not fertile. The hens were less than a year old, but the eggs were not small like pullet eggs. The last 2 weeks they have been laying like crazy. I am sending about 50 doz to an auction on Sat. Others around the area say their are not laying yet. My were coped all winter with a pen so they were outside, but cooped at nite.I kept 2 150 watt lights on each cop all winter and 1 light per coop is still on. I candle today. It is so hard with guineas to tell anything, for the shells are so thick and dark. I did see some that were totally clear, others seemed ok, and then some with blood vein kind of running leght of egg. What does that mean?

Thanks

PeepsCA - i saw you lockdown your guinea eggs on day 24 and they hatch 24-27 days... is this how most people you know of time thier hatches too? im only asking because i read that they take 28 days like a turkey (give or take) so i was planning to set my guinea eggs with my turkeys but i wouldnt lock down my turkey eggs until day 25 and id like to keep them all on the same schedule so i dont loose my mind! lol do a lot of your keets hatch on actual day 24 or 25? im wondering now if i should lock down the turkey eggs on day 24 (a day early) with the guineas or if i would be ok to wait until day 25..

I'm in south Alabama & our two girls that we hatched out Oct of last year started laying about a month ago. We didn't think it was their eggs at first, but we realized later that it was. They're not fertile eggs though because we don't have a male in with them, yet.

Good luck with ya'll's hatches

birdbrain5... yes a lot of people that I know that incubate Guinea eggs do have theirs pip on day 24 and hatch by day 26-27. I can't say it's the norm, but it's common especially with the Hovabator Genesis 1588's. I quite often have 1 or 2 early keets pip, zip and hatch on day 24, then everybody else hatches by day 26-27. Rarely do any of my hatches last thru day 28. I have a separate incubator used specifically for hatching which I preheat on day 23 and if I have any pipped eggs I'll move the whole batch of eggs over to the hatcher the night of the 23rd, if nobody has pipped yet then I wait until the morning of the 24th.

Candle the Turkey eggs on day 24, and if they have the air cell tilted just as much as the Guinea eggs do... I'd lock em all down

Good luck!

PeepsCA thank you for the info.
All eggs are marked excluding the ones in the coop, (will mark them tomorrow) and the six I put under the broody. I know all the nests have more than one layer, cause the numbers go up everyday by more than one.
They are all in the shade and I'm very impressed with their creativity. The only problem is I don't know when I'll be able to get rid of a desk cause two of the nest are under it.

ok thanks for the info! i've heard people lock down eggs a day early before and been fine so ill plan on that with my turkeys.
i am so jealous a lot of peoples guineas are laying!! i broke down and bought 16 eggs from a local woman yesterday, going in the bator tonight! im going to make a new nest area for my guineas, the box i have must not be enough of a hiding place for them. the woman i got the eggs from said its got to be real secluded.. hope it helps! come on ladies!!!!
