Am I the only one that hates halloween?

all of the holiday things were great and fun when I had lots of family around me...now it is me and the dogs and the ducks and the chickens and the geese...so I don't do much in the way of holidays...I can't say that I miss it...the Christmas mayhem always over whelmed me...the expectations were so outrageous...and still are for some...Easter with the bunny passing out chocolate and colored chicken eggs, well, what can I say? My Easter is quiet and I will often plant a tree, as that is an act of faith and hope to me...just one and while so doing I will ponder the wonders of the Cosmos...I am kind of an odd duck about holidays and their significance...halloween? Funny celebration when people send their kids out to extort candy from people...I am at the edge of the earth so we don't get any visitors for that purpose...I am grateful...I had a kennel full of boarders last year and my big fun was setting up a pumpkin in the window, an electrically lighted one...around 2 a.m. I flipped the switch and all of the dogs went crackers barking and carrying on about the stranger in the house...cracked me up...I was fair tho...after that I went out to calm them down and took everyone a big milk bone...trick and a treat...I am more into military and patriotic holidays...I fly my flag and remember...I am a vet and our family have served since the revolution...so those are the important ones for me...I am happy to see others happy and enjoying the ones that are important to them...it is a big world and there is room for all...

Hubby and I watched "London to Brighton" which was much darker than I had thought it would be. He brought me home a small bag of snickers which I am selfishly keeping to myself. We've drank a couple of bottles of wine and now my middle son is going to have a bonfire with five of his friends.

Not one child rang the doorbell

and now I'm off to bed.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who feels this way.

Just please don't be one of those people that are rude to the little kids. I remember "vividly" as a child trick or treated with my family. Followed the rules, look for the lighted porch light and went and rang the door bell once(!) and then stood patiently. The door opened, some adult blonde lady sneered at me and threw a pack of crushed crackers at me and then shut the door. It bugged me for several days because I didn't know what I did to make that lady angry with me.

If you live in a populated area and leave your porch light on, your door bell is going to ring. Be nice and just say you don't have any candy. We didn't have any candy to give this year and we live on a long dirt road and have signs of "NO TRESPASSING" and "BEWARE OF DOG" on our fence. I made sure to turn the lights out and retire to a back room of the house.

Believe what you want to believe and practice what you want to practice, but be nice to the little ones.

Halloween is the best. My wife and I love it. The grandkids come over all dressed up. Last couple of years we went to her cousins for a costume party. Now that is fun too.

My first Halloween in the country and I already miss the trick or treaters. I loved having kids come by and getting to see their costumes. Especially the teen agers. Believe me, they tend to put much much more time and money into their costumes than the candy they get is worth. It's just fun for them to get to dress up and go out. We live in a smallish town and people tend to know each other.

My eldest was Sweeney Todd this year and had a great time trick or treating with his friends.

It's fine to not like Halloween, just leave the light off. But you know, any holiday that inspires so much creativity can't be all bad.

wow kim that wa sreally mean of that lady! I love halloween. the thing I don't like is taking down all the decorations. Love putting them up, but what a pain taking them down! I live in town. 99% of the people in town do not participate in giving out cnady. We are one of a handful of houses on my side of town that do. Course we live right down the road from the school. So we can just walk down there and enjoy free hot dogs, popcorn, apple cider, donuts, plus whatever games my neice and nephews want to play in their 'spooks' program.

we too live in the country, so we turn off our lights. we bring our 2 young children over to my parents house to hit up a few streets there. Its not my fav day, its alot of scarey things, creatures,costumes.. i had to sheild my 2 year old from scarey masked kids last night......(what happened to the cuddley cute kid costumes?
