Peep will be 11 years old soon. And this is the 6th egg she has laid in the last 3 weeks. When we put 3 eggs in a wooden box with a 40 watt light bulb 11 years ago I never dreamed that we would still have the single chick that hatched this long. And I sure didn't know that a chicken COULD still be laying eggs this long.

You can check yolks for fertility when you have her eggs for breakfast.
Are her chicks from 6 years ago still around?

We've been eating her eggs and I never noticed a bullseye. I only have one active rooster right now with around 30 hens. It actually surprised me that her eggs were so perfect. A lot of times old hens will lay eggs that are blood streaked or otherwise unattractive to eat. But hers are good.

The last chicken that hatched from one of her eggs died this winter at 5 years old. I think she's probably outlived a lot of her grandchildren too. ;)
