i have a newly hatched chick with what appears to be the ambilical cord still attached to part of shell and it. I have put it in a cup with moist towel with shell under her. Anything else I should do. First time hatching chicks.

In my experience, as long as the yolk is absorbed then the umbilical has dried up and fallen off by itself. Just keep the chick away from others so it isnt picked at. It may take a few hours but mine have done fine. Someone else here may have better suggestions for you.

I have separated the chick because the others were pecking it. Here is a pic of it’s behind. It is also covered in yoke. I have it with water and feed. Anything else I need to do?

Hmmm. Looks like abdomen has not fully closed. I dont have any luck when that happens. Im guessing their is someone on here who has experience treating that sucessfully. I personally let it take its course.

Trying to look closer on my phone is hard but on second glance is that intestine? It looks as if it may be. There might not be anything you can do except keep it comfortable and warm. Im sorry

That’s what I’m afraid of. Thank you!
