Ameracaunas first egg!

yeah it was her. i saw her in the nest box....sitting there..and the only other one that lays..lays dark brown ones in the morning.
she is pretty isnt she!

I feel so bad complaining! its pretty rad they are laying. My RIR has been laying 1 egg a day for a month! so now all we have left to start laying is that darn blue andelusian!
Also..my RIR has really turned into quite the jerk since she started laying. she pecks my pants and shoes..but she she pecks she hangs on and shakes her head! she drew blood from my hand and left a mark on my shin! She WAS the sweet one. Anyone else have that problem with RIR's?

Congratulations on your first egg.

She is an EE. Just to let you know, I have true Ameraucanas and last year my first blue egg came one day short of their 25th birthday. Ironic huh?

Weird..she laid her first egg today and tomorrow is her 25th week birthday!

I thought EE's was another name for Ameracauna. I didnt know they were different breeds.
How did you know you were getting true ameracauanas?

So sorry about the RIR being hateful. Mine was the sweetest, noisiest girl I ever had. (coon got her). don't know what to tell you about her. Maybe someone else will.

I have one 6 week old that I think will be very simalar in color to yours. I wonder what color eggs she will lay?

Here are pictures of my 3 EE's...I bought them too thinking I was getting Ameraucanas. I've since learned that EE's are really not 100% pure, but part Ameraucana or Aurcana mixed w/another breed. My white EE started laying at 21 1/2 weeks (she's 26 weeks now). She is laying light tan eggs, not the blue/green I was hoping for and expecting. But they still taste delish! I'm waiting for her sisters to get on board an start laying...maybe I'll get my colored egg yet!

Here is my EE first egg next to a store bought extra-large white egg. The EE eggs have grown in size since her first one

If you want true Ameraucanas you have to find a breeder. The hatcheries are always EE's.
