I have been pretty good with sexting RIR, Rocks and Australorp chickens. However, I am new to the Ameraucana line. I have a few that are showing signs of roo maturity and I am going to be greatly disappointed in Murray's Hatchery if the higher percentage is male but I need some help. Here are pictures of 2 I believe to be male. Please help me identify if I am correct in my knowledge. The comb and feather arrangement on both appear to be perfect for a baby roo from other breeds I have handled. Thank you to anyone who can help with any tips on how to tell my hens from the roo's. ***Understand that the baby in the cage is only there to recover. Due to the number of chicks I have and the method I was using for feeding, he became to week and was pushed aside and nearly died in my arms. This is NOT his permanent home! Once he/she is back to full straenght and health I will return she/he back to the nice run I have for my chickens.***

I apologize for the poor quality in the photos. I can update them tomorrow so it can be more helpful. Thank you for the response thought! I am pretty sure the majority of my flock are male but I just wanted to make sure. :)

They are easter eggers not ameraucanas. And from what I can tell it looks like you have 2 cockerels, but If you could get better pics it would help a lot :)

They are both Easter Egger cockerels. A good way to tell is their coloring, very EE male, and their wide, 3 row combs.

You don't have any Ameraucanas from MMM. They falsely advertised and fooled you. You have Easter Eggers. Still wonderful birds. Research them so you can tell more about them, but you're on the right track with your sexing!

Thank you for all your responses. As I said, I am new to the Ameraucana line and do not like being cheated. I will have another hatchery take a look at my chickens to confirm the EE theory and go from there on getting my money back. I did however figure that they were male. Which is also disappointing because I now have 3 hens out of 12 chickens ordered. Very disappointing. I am going to add better photos today so everyone can have a better look.

Here are a few more pictures of the two in question. Hopefully these are a little better. Also, can anyone give me a bit more information on the difference between true breed ameraucana and Easter Eggers? I bought the Ameraucana for show quality birds...If these doe not qualify as a true breed. MMH will be hearing from on false advertisement. Has anyone else had this kind of issue from orders from MMH? *Also, does anyone know where I may be able to take my birds to have them checked to confirm if any standards are met?

Murray Mcmurray sells "Americanas" not "Ameraucanas". You have to be on the look out for the differences in spelling because anytime it has an "i" instead of "au", you are getting EE's. 95% of the time if you order from a hatchery or feed store, you are getting EE's not true Ameraucanas or Araucanas.

Well don't I feel silly right now. I just went back to there main page and they advertised them as EE. So this is entirely on me. Oh well, they are still fun chickens! I will work through the show quality later. Still not happy with the number of males to females but thats just my preference problem. Thank you to everyone who responded and helped me out with this!
