I have two Ameraucana hens about a year old. They were both laying pretty well until recently. One went into a molt and stopped laying (but still squats when I go to pet her). The other one is not molting, eating well, but isn't laying either. I have a light in my hen house and this has helped with my other hens to lay pretty consistently. I haven't gotten any lovely green/blue eggs for about a month now.

I feed with organic laying pellets, oyster shells, hen scratch. I also offer them a bowls of whey (left over from cheese making) which they love. So the upshot is they are getting good feed and fresh water. Could it be that they just don't like the wintery weather we are having here in Central California.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the one that is molting probably won't lay until after the molt. Perhaps the other one is getting ready to molt. It's an odd time of year for a molt though, isn't it?

I have 30 or so ( mostly mixed layers)in 1 pen and the ameraconas started laying later and slower than the others did when it warmed up , should be getting at least 4 a day out of 8 hens but would be doing good to get 5 greenies a week . Have 1 white layer in there and she lays near every day . I am getting 12 to 14 a day and it's slowly increasing .
