Good morning all, We purchased six Ameraucana chicks approximately two weeks ago. Unfortunately, two passed away Memorial Day. I assumed from heat stroke as I moved them outside to clean their brooder.

This morning I found a third chick very lethargic, feet cold, but still breathing. I got it to drink a couple of sips of electrolytes; however, I am clueless on how to help this baby.

Please help.

This baby started thrashing around and just stopped breathing!!!!

Is there anything I can do to ensure the other three chicks do not end up dying as well? I have no idea what caused this baby to pass away. Now I am having second thoughts on what caused the first two chicks to pass away on Memorial Day.

I'm really sorry for your losses.
What are you feeding them?
Can you take a picture of your entire brooder set up?
How often do you clean the brooder?
What is the temperature in there?
Have you checked them for pasty butt?
Do you have any other chickens?

They are eating DuMor Poultry Chick 20% Starter/Grower (picture attached).

Above is a picture of my brooder setup.

I change their pine shavings every one to two days and wash out their brooder weekly.

Unfortunately, I do not know they exact temperature in the brooder. I am going to purchase a thermometer this morning.

None of the chicks have or had pasty butt.

We have a total of 20 chickens ranging from 6 weeks old to a couple of days old. (Leghorns, Delawares, Red Rangers, Silkies, Brahmas, Olive Eggers, Ameraucanas)

How active are they? They look hot. I'd raise the heat source.
