Ameraucana Chickens

If you can look for a recycled coop thread, or recycled buiding materials thread. Also habitat for humanity store may be a good building source. I funded my coop build with aluminum cans cashed in and bout a bunch of landscape timbers to build a cabin coop. There are coops made from giant spools to frames from kid swing sets and more. I wish you luck in your search!! :)

The roo's start to get a little bump at 12 to 14 weeks and it is all

well I never did post those photos I was going to put up. I def have 2 roosters and Today I found 11 eggs in two different boxes I had in my temp run and coop I have been using. I was starting on the nesting boxes to put on the side of the coop and now I guess I better hurry up. I put in a covered litter box with fresh pine bedding and added more pine just two days ago . there was no eggs and lo and behold today when I decided to clean out the pine in the box they sleep in I discovered 5 eggs in the covered box and when looking in another box I had put in there was another 6 eggs. At most I have 3 hens and how can I have gotten that many eggs in the two or three days I have not looked. I had company and didn't pay much attention. Only let them into their tractor run and back in their home area those two days. If nobody was playing a prank on me I must have some good layers and apparently all three russett colored chickens are hens. I was not going to use the eggs since I didn't know how long they were in the outside boxes until I read that most people don't refrigerate their freshly laid eggs for weeks or more and they are fine. Now to convince my Hubby that they are safe.

I must be doing something Right to have so many eggs laid for me. I feed them a good variety of pelletts and cracked corn and even table scraps when available. Just vegetables They do Love chopped up spaghetti Though. Then I gather Sour Grass for them almost daily sometimes several times a day as a treat. They are kept in a Tractor through the day so I do their foraging for them. I have been letting them free range a little before and after they go into the tractor past few days. However they are getting so bad about not going inside that i am thinking about stopping that . First they went willingly into their Tractor in the day and their run and coop area at night. Now they are giving me a rough time and I am regretting treating them with free time. Especially when I am needed elsewhere in a hurry and they are being stubborn little boogers. The hens are not such a problem It is the two roos that are the stubbornest. They actually give me a stubborn sigh when I finally scoop them up and put them in their prospective areas. It is funny cause you can tell they are mad about it. They get all huffy and let out a big ole sigh . lol Funny. sometimes not.

great I will certainly try those suggestions. So far I have gotten my hands on a 100 dollar gift card from lowes. And was bought some treated 2x6 for my birthday. lol. I have not bought anything yet because I know what I want to build will take far more than that. Anyway if I can get recycled stuff I will have to buy less stuff.
