Just a few days shy of 7 weeks now and hoping to confirm cockerel or pullet?

Hmm. Comb and hackle feathers sorta point me toward cockerel. Saddle feathers still look pretty rounded though. It’s hard to tell at this age, but I’m leaning toward cockerel. To be fair, I have a difficult time discerning feather shapes in some photos. Do you have others of the same age and breed? If so, how goes this one compare to the others?

Hackle and saddle feathers mean very little at this age. Its all about the comb and the coloring. The male or female specific saddle and hackle feathers won't come in until 12ish weeks.

Google just told me that 8-12 weeks is when they begin to grow. My most recent cockerel had hackle feathers growing at around 8 weeks. Saddle feathers begin around 16-24 weeks.

I did mention it is difficult to tell at this age, but I’m glad you prompted me to look up this information for myself.

I still feel the comb is bigger and pinker than what is typical of a pea comb on a pullet which is why I asked if there are other chicks of the same age in the flock. When comparing combs within chicks of the same clutch, I’ve been able to ID males correctly as early as four weeks of age by comb alone, however rose and pea combs are usually easier than single.

Unfortunately the other chicks I got with this one are OEs and EEs, so not able to compare them. One of the EEs is a cockerel and a very obvious one when he was only 3 weeks old with his red comb and black chest feathers. This chick I’m back and forth with very day haha

Well I guess time will tell! The EEs I’ve had have always looked like Ameraucanas but it all depends on the breeding line from which the EE comes.

These guys don’t look like Ameraucanas so much to me, though they very well could have some in there somewhere. The breeder I got them from has Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, maybe they have that in them? Definitely look like silkie-somethings to me though

Yes that little poof looks pretty silkie-esque, but who knows it could be a polish poof too.

...days like today I lean pullet, no color in the comb. Would a cockerel’s comb change in color so much? The other little dude I got at the same time, his comb turned red and has stayed red
